10" or 12" small-box subwoofer recommendation
« on: October 15, 2006, 03:53:51 PM »
Hey guys... am open for options for a small box subwoofer, something with the likes of roughly .5-.65cuft for 1 unit of sub, either 10" or 12".

Anyone have ideas? I've got 600Wrms on tap at 4-ohms for the unit.

Have a couple of subs in mind, namely the old school Soundstream Reference, EXACT, Boston Pro 10.5LF, what else, IDQ10s, unfortunately, most that comes up in mind are 10" ones, wondering if anyone has any 12" small box sub to recommend? Preferably something with DVC 2-ohm or SVC 4-ohm since well, my amp isn't exactly stable below 4-ohms ;)

But i'm open to opinions, budget... hm... i guess about RM1k-1.5k.

for that kind of small box, you better off settle yourself with a Scan 23W, guess your budget would fits in. Can't think of sub with that small box requirement except scans and aliante.

if you can make your box size to 1cf, the Vifa MW26 aluminium cone should be very good, I've heard it in my cousin's car and it have a very similar characteristic of Scan 23W.

Yeah... i kinda read that the Vifa MW26 sounds similar to the Scans 23W, but whereabouts to get it locally? So far macam only see that madisound has it.

Hm... scans 23W, ain't really too inclined to putting that into the particular car i had in mind :D But i'll keep it in consideration. Any other subs?

Grexer,

I "heard" the Scans 9" relevator can stuff into a pretty smallbox. I guess you know who 'might' have it, check it out, although I never listen before, I 'hear' from fellow ICEr buddy, its quite a good driver.

I've auditioned it for a while, packs quite some punch, wouldn't exactly know it's a small driver, but the price, plus shipping, would probably exceed my final budget :(

yea, it is nice considering it does not cost as much as the Scan, and my cousin put it into a 1cf with polyfill to simulate a larger box, he got it from US, but i guess Leda in singapore have it...have a check.

Yeah... it's a tall order, but with 10" i think there's a possibility of sticking with 0.5cuft, but not with most of the 12", the *only* one i know would be the DiYMA, but it's going to be too costly to bring another one in. Not to mention the wait.

I'm thinking of looking for older school Soundstreams, but they are hard to located in good condition.

Well... i manage to score a unit of SoundStream Reference SS10R today. F*cking heavy for a 10" subwoofer for sure, but the one i picked up is not exactly in the best of cosmetic conditions, was wondering whether there's any possibility of a re-cone kit, or better still, just the dust cap(it has a dented dust cap actually)?

Can't wait to built a 0.5cuft box, dump it in and try it out. ;D That's the minimum box size(yeah yeah... i know, minimum box size usually sucks, but there's polyfill and EQ ;D)

Guess i'm still an old skol freak :D

Nope, the sub mentioned, the Vifa Alum, is the MA26WR09-04 Black Aluminum cone woofer instead. It's a 4-ohm driver. I saw you posting around for an "ideal" sub so to speak ;D This sub has been reviewed by Nyugen before quite a while back. you can refer back to the postings he made in the review section, or better still, PM the dude, he's extremely friendly and helpful ;D
