9855 blackout feature issue
« on: April 01, 2007, 11:15:18 PM »
hi there to those having the alpine 9855...i do not know whether my unit is defective or the blackout feature has been enabled without my knowledge...the symptom is that the screen will blackout after a few seconds of non-usage (even in menu mode)..the white backlight will continue to illuminate but no backgroup, time etc unless i up the volume or touch anything on the HU...according to the manual, i need to press the "func" for 2 or more seconds but that does not help..will only bring me to the source (CD or radio) menu..is this a defect or is there anyway to turn back on the background while in usage? those having the 9855, can you please try the blackout mode and see if there is any white illumination in the background? thanks !!!

yes yes and yes.

You need to press and hold the function for about 5 to 10 secs actually. When blackout, it still has that stupid white light in the background.

Me 9855 user.

You must press and HOLD the button until u hear a beep, and yes, it's going to be annoying to do that when driving, better do it when stationary as you'll gotta hold the button for quite a while.
