Pop sound when turning off the HU
« on: March 21, 2007, 01:08:22 PM »
Sifus sekalian, I have a problem with my current active setup.  Whenever I'm turning off the HU, I can hear a small pop sound from my tweeter and it is very irritating.  /99

What are the possible causes & solutions?

Setup configuration:

HU --> 2CH Amp (Tweeter) & 4CH Amp (Midbass & Sub)

thanks.  in the first place, is this due to defective amp/hu or compatibility issue?

saw this device called "delayed amp turn off circuit", http://www.davidnavone.com/amp.htm where to get it?  if not too difficult, will DIY.

Basically its a small capacitor on your remote line. So when you turn it on, it will delay a while before turnig it on and delay when turnign it off.

Built and tried the delay circuit and still got the pop sound.   /99

Further checking also found my midbass, which powered by another amp also got the pop sound.  Something that I missed out earlier, could be overwhelmed by the annoying sound from the tweeter.

Done some troubleshooting.  I have temporary disable the midbass amp by unplugged the remote line and still without any success, pop sound still can be heard from the tweeter.  Next, I unplugged the RCA from the tweeter amp, then the pop sound gone  /66.  So, I guess the culprit could be my HU  /01.  What could possible go wrong?  Any remedy?

Is it possible that u might be overloading the remote out from your HU? How many amps do you have and do you daisy-chain the remote wire?

i have 2 amps, Helix B2 (driving tweeter) and Soundstream VGA500.4(driving midbass and sub)

the HU remote line is connected directly to the VGA.  the B2's remote line is tack on in between the one from the HU to VGA amp.

as hilited above, even i have temporary remove the remote line for VGA (only left with the B2) i can still hear the pop sound from the tweeter.  /87

i remember solving mine with a relay and a diode on the remote line...

but... sifu vegatron told me tht this is not a normal solution... normally installer will use a delay switch...

but well... it does solve mine... /160

Thanks for helping.  Issue solved.

Problem is due to HU/DC-DC converter like what pointed out by Calvin tailo.

Sent the HU back to service center and kautim.
