Tweeter: On-axis or off-axis?
« on: February 26, 2007, 11:57:37 AM »
Whats if differences when we install tweet on-axis and off-axis? I managed to find most of the installations are made off-axis (L/R tweets are facing each other or slightly upwards). I think the tweets will roll off before reaching 20khz.

However, if placing it on-axis, the fiberglassing would be a bit difficult due to the angle.

Sifus comment/opinion are appreciated.

on-axis will yield better response. However, imaging will be hrader to get since you will get point sourcing. Also at times you may find it too harsh

off-axis is the opposite.

Why not U try 30 degree off axis & place it at A pillar same level with your "Mouth"... but not same level as your ear or chin... Hope U can feel some thing new, specially your stage will be 10cm higher at your center dashboard (sine wave has been change to Everest Mountain)...........

google it. on-axis is basically facing you/front. off axis is like what your mids locations are at default.

yeap... some are more directional like the vifa xt 25...  so u need to place it on-axis to a certain degree depending on ur car acoustic... some dome type tweeter can be placed off axis.

on axis or off axis? well ur answer is not goin to come as easy as just saying it or by following peoples experiences, cause u got to take into account regarding your own car "environment" or acoustic of ur own car ..eg waja car on axis 30deg on da a-pillar is not goin to sound the same as in a camry or honda etc..
not to mention what sort of equiptments u r using to drive ur units, tuning and da list goes on and on..

it all comes down to u placing it in ur car (a-pillars, sail panels or kicks) and at diff deg on/off axis then start listening to it start appreciating to every single changes u hear, tune until it sounds gud for u den u can say it sounds better on or off axis..damm im still doin dat /35

BUT of course there r general things dat u'll hear people say ring radiator is more directional compared to domes blah blah blah not to say its wrong and all ::)
what counts is at the end of da day u got to DIY and njoi da experience of it..im njoing it but sometimes it gets so damm f#@$%5 frustating just bcause u cant get certain freqs to sound good /24
