Installing Sound Dampening
« on: July 28, 2011, 05:25:43 PM »
Been a while out for the game, now intend to get back in..

Nowadays how much (RM) average (Ball Park Figure) for installer to install Dampening Material as follows

Dynamat Extreme, Use the whole Box to install for 2 layers front Doors, 1 layer rear door, 1 Layer Trunk Area and other critical area if there are still left over of material available available

Appreciate the input, as I am preparing the budget...

you can focus more on front door like layer, not useful for rear door unless u do install speaker there... balance apply on boot...
anyway, i hv no idea how much for a box of dynamat...  /77

Thanks Zac dude for the advice, yup this set up would not utilize rear speaker application and not even install subwoofer. This would be wife's car, only front component speaker applied.

I kind of know how much a box of dynamat extreme cost, I need to know the cost to install those dynamats or other better equivalent price of damping material. /78

Thanks Finalazy dude,

I think eventhough we are only installing front speakers, but I guess we should install at other area too to some extend as to dampen those vehicle structure too as to keep the sound of music inside the vehicle while absorbing excessive sound generated rather than keep hitting metallic structure around which create echoes, and also to prevent outside noise from coming into the vehicle which will create noise and also to reduce/eliminate rattle from mechanical movement euther intended or not intended.

By the way, you are right also if we questioning whether the impact (I means installing at other structure) is worth the effort and cost,. This need further experimentation.

With all due respect, again I know what is the cost the material, what I am asking the cost for us to pay the installer (labor charges) to install those material ?

I did try to DIY on myb last install on front door and boot, the result not so very good; I guess I do not have enough DIY passion, just to get it done..learn my weaknesses so this time I ratehr let the pros do it..

What other material that you recommend, heard a lot of items beside dynamat, such as sika, wurth, brown bread/b-quiet but not sure which one suitable, only have tried dynamat extreme.

STP is gaining popularity nowadays. STP Gold being slightly thicker than Dyna Extreme (a bit more expensive).

how much for a box of dynamat though??
For the pro work, normally it costs rm1k for Front left 3 layers + right 3 layers (different type of material to compensate each other) and takes around 4hrs...

I like the neat and tidy finish...

Personally I think the competitor brands have improved leaps and bounds since the old days of Dynamat Xtreme dominating the market.

- Brown bread is removable + restickable and around the same price as Xtreme so I'd give that a consideration.
- STP (dunno which model) is lighter than Xtreme so it won't weigh down the car too much

There are a few other brands I cannot recall the names of that are as good as cheaper than Xtreme. May want to consider those. Having said that - I forgot (again) the name of the brand that KFAudio is fond of using, that particular one has gone up in price compared to the others. Strange.

seldom heard people talking about this brand here... but seems to have a certain level of "popularity-in-a-good-way". :)
