I would say its like an Audio myth. And sometimes its just been added with salt and pepper and sometimes it has some truth behind it.
I recalled the myth of 10" plays faster and 15" plays sloppy bass.
The myth
A 10" would play faster bass than a 15". A 15" will never catch up with the 10" in terms of fast beat. Thats why less ppl uses 15". A 12" is consider middle of the road application.
Behind the myth
Many many years ago...... in audio industry, audio and especially car audio is a very expensive hobbby for the rich only. Manufacturers trying to save cost built one motor to fits all. They will design a motor for 12" and built a 10", 12" and 15" even 18" sub from the same motor.
The truth
Now in audio industry, manufacturer would built motor for each sizes. In fact Adire Audio has written a white papper on this "Woofer Speed" quoting that fast subs are non accurate sub. They just cannot keep up.
The result
You can judge yourself, just like cables or amps.
