~yeap..my a-pillar look so-so but the angling sucks hard..  /58 hahaha it might be becoz of the dashboard..thinking of swaping it with evo/lancer dashboard in future. The right side mid is a bit blocked by the stupid dashboard thus resulting phases cancellation..so how is ur kick panel?they are 12M mid too right?~

ahmi,
wow!!..good news!!. glad to hear ur wife is enjoying the car as much as u do..
ur car hifi now has a good foundation.. no need to upgrade here and there anymore.
juz need a better frontend(source unit) and a much better cables as it will be ur weakest link in ur system(bottleneck)..

Our guru of car hifi, Octave has audit ur car too. he advise the 1st RCA needs to be much better than bay C5 Hybrid. even with the mcIntosh deck in, the 1st RCA is still a persistant problem as it is not able to deliver the full potential of the HU(bottleneck). from the 1st RCA, you can slowly change the rest to a better ones in stages..
note: when you come down PJ, give me a call. will upgrade ur 1st RCA( on loan!) to a much better one. our guru, Octave says no point explaining, listen and experience the diff a premium cable and be the judge of urself

The alpine old school has no match for the superior mcIntosh MX4000 or MX5000 with external DAC. With full mods on it, its miles apart!!..
Its one of the best source unit I ever heard. personally I feel there's no HU can come close to it with the mods applied on it.
mods performed are also the same mods performed on the home hifi source unit and DAC. all parts are built for home hifi but we use it on the car audio.

you shall understand that it takes time for a system to fully burnt in and settled down, after 3-6months you will be 'rewarded' with a huge improvement over SQ. try to run 'pink noise' in ur system when ur back home as long as you can. after 100hrs, you'll love the results. after 300hrs you shall be even happier than before..lol. you dont need to have 'golden ear' to hear the noticeable improvement

* this is the reason why I dislike changing gears and it takes such a long time to run in, mostly due to passives and mods applied on it.
now u r are on the add on's games(more headcap pls!!) no more changing amp, speaker, sub and etc...
ur journey to car hifi is almost ended on this wira......

just sit back and enjoy the music..

Car Hifi Rebuilding Stage and Upgrades

Tjbhuler, senior ICER FD2

HU: mcIntosh MX4000 (basic mods on PSU and PSU preamp stage)
* modded with low jitter correction clock - better than +/- 0.2ppm (level 3 mod)
* added a new digital power supply - low noise ultra widebandwith voltage regulators (discrete design)
- further improved clock performance!!
* modded a new digital coaxial 75ohm RCA output

DC-DC Converter: Level 2 mod (with Vcap as bypass PSU)

External DAC: mcIntosh MDA4000 (level 3 mod)
* smoothing caps upgraded to 'audiophile grade'
* PSU reservoir and filtration caps upgraded to 'audiophile grade'
* increase reservoir capacity + low inductance value
* opamp decoupling caps upgraded to 'audiophile grade'
* Burr Brown DAC PCM1702 PSU improved to 'audiophile grade'
* AD797 upgraded to fully discrete HD opamps
* signal coupling cap upgraded to 'audiophile grade'

Preamp EQ: audiocontrol EQL concert series (level 3 mod)
* rectification stage improved
* switch mode power supply improved
* PSU bypass upgraded to Vcap Teflon cap
* analog stage improved
* critical signal path improved

Preamp Xover: audiocontrol 4XS concert series ( level 3 signature mod)
* rectification stage improved
* Switch mode power supply improved
* PSU bypass upgraded to Vcap Teflon cap
* analog stage improved
* critical signal path improved
* signal coupling caps modded to Copper Foil paper-in-oil in paper tube

Frontstage: Scanspeak tweets +revelator midrange + Peerless SLS midbass
Passive: customized passive using Mundorf Supreme + Paper in wax inductor 12awg
Frontstage-amp: Luxman CM2100 X 2 unit (zero negative feedback design)
Subwoofer: Seas Lotus 12"
Sub-amp: Helix A2 competition
Speaker Cables: Kimber Kable
Interconnect: VDH yet to confirm which model
Digital Coaxial 75ohm: pure silver conductor with quad shielding(copper screen mylar foil, braided silver plated OFC X 2, Teflon)
Power Supply caps: Mundorf
Fuse: Cryogenic Fuse

the system will yield very good inner details + low level information. play ur familiar CD and you shall notice some information cannot be heard but now able to do so. will notice a significant improvement in rich natural harmonics in the system. separation and focus is greatly noticeable. midrange 'presence' very prominent. drums, percussion, guitars and etc.. will sound very 'real'. listening to the 'highs' will give you a high-end feel unlike conventional 'highs'. when system is played loud, will get the feeling of a very willingly music flowing out from the speakers. midbass + sub-bass will have a richer density and more 'weight' to it and to some its actually 'louder'
overall, musicality of the system is improved by a few notches up..
