Choosing AMP
« on: August 24, 2010, 01:37:23 PM »
Hi Guys,

Just got my HU recently, a 9887, now planning on the next item, AMP!

So now, how much should I allocate for a decent 2 or 4 Channel Amp?
I do have a old 12" sub (BM Audio Labs) which is like more than 4 years old, from my old Saga.
Ya I know, to a lot of you guys, the Sub is a cap ayam sub... /24 But what to do... Last time know nuts about ICE... and now still... So pls bare with me...

Current Setup:
HU - 9887
Front - German Maestro Alpha 6.5" Component Set
Rear - Original Saga BLM Speakers

Item in hand:
12" Sub Woofer (No AMP to power it yet)

So now, my plan is to power up all the speakers with AMP(s)
And MAYBE I want to try to play Active Setup(Tweeter and front woofer separated channel? Please correct me if I'm wrong)
So what amp and what kind of budget should I start with?
2 X 2 channel, 4 channel or 6 channel?

I saw someone selling this amp online, STEG QM75.6MX for like 1K, but I'm not sure if it's OK or not.

Please shed some lights!

 /68
Thank you!

Well Said! That's part of my plan, throwing the rear speakers away!

Well, not to say Throw lah, will de-activate it once my SUB is UP!

So Sifu-Sifu here, what kind of amp should I look for?
Whats the difference with A/B/D type amps?
If ask me Wireless A/B/G/N I can tell lah... :P

Have anyone of you heard of this amp? Alpine T320 (2 Channel), like RM350?
Any idea it's worth to buy or not? Looks like a very old amp thou, like 3 years...

Never know but if it's too old, repairs will cost you 1/2 or more than the amp itself.

The STEG amp SOLD off some time back. Get a 4 Channel first and take it from there. You can get good 'used' amps if you scout around properly....and may I ask why do you intend to go with 'Active' set-up?

The Steg sold off? You knew that amp also? So how was it like? Good? Or am I suppose to ask... "Are all Steg Amps good?" hehehe

Actually... I have really heard an Active's setup before... But from what i read online, it looks like it sounds more dynamic, and more detailed. Not too sure... I'm using cheapscate component sets without amps now... Have to live with what I have now cause I really only have that much to spend for now... got to save one ler... LOL... What to do... Gaji small small... Have to dream big!
:D

Anyway, my component set is only German Maestro... someone told me it's the "father" or "mother" of MB Quart discuss or somesort....
LOL...
