I didnt have the chance to do A-B comparison. I use them for different setup. I used 7990 on my car and 7909 on my wife's car, before the 7990 cannot eject the cd. Only then I use 7909 on my car.
I do prefer 7990 over 7909. For acoustic musics and female vocals 7990 sounds better compared to 7909. 7909's top end is a bit dull compared
But there is a Thai guy who bought a modded 7909J which he bought from Malaysia. I have to find his email address again to ask how it sounds.
Go for 7990...
