Topic: inductor coil came off but...

dear all passive sifu...
1. the passive with the connection label.

i have a passive xover that my brother was using for years... and today i took some time to take it off his ride because i wanted to replace his with another custom passives for trying out...

after taking out... i found out that one of the inductor coil on one side had disintegrated... but the weird thing is both hi and lo output are still the same... i mean there is still sound... and the mid still plays the lower freq while the hi are still playing hi...

i have no idea what value are the inductor coil... hence my question is:
1. anyway i could have the inductor coil tested out so that i know the value?
2. is it still safe to use the passive without the inductor coil?
3. last and most importantly... whats the inductor coil for? i mean in this case, with and without it... it doesnt change anything...

you have to get a LCR meter. Its a bit pricey.. i think the base model starts from RM280++

Yes its safe to use without the inductor. But you will have a very bad cone breakup at 4000hz onwards. Will sound fuller but NOT musical at all..
3. last and most importantly... whats the inductor coil for? i mean in this case, with and without it... it doesnt change anything...
Inductor is for LP. Caps is for HP

Overall the AD passives is a 6db slope. I wont use a 6.8uf cap for 6db slope. Too much energy comin out from the tweeters. Since its only utilizing 2 components on each passive, much better to do a point to point soldering as the copper trace on the PCB will degrade the sound drastically. I would also removed those ceramic resistors (only cost less than RM0.10 cents) to a better ones since it is in series with the signal..

thanks for the infos... can i know what recommendations as what value of inductor should i use to replace the "broken inductor"? thinking of replacing both side at once... and yea... the resistors as well....

any formula calculations?

get a DSLR camera and trigger happy in various mode, sure can get some nice pics.  can use mt. kinabalu as ur background as well haha.
