Arc Audio 4150 XXK help
« on: April 26, 2010, 06:08:22 PM »
Hi guys.

i have an arc audio 4150xxk amp that is powering my sub(bridged) and components. the sub is connected to the 'front' channel and components are connected to 'rear'. the reason why i connect the sub to the front is because the amp front channel is optimised for sub use (according to the manual).

from HU: i have 3 preouts on the HU. im only using 2 out of 3. 1 sub, one front (components). the third one labeled as 'rear' is not used coz i dont have rear speakers.

so onto the problem..
the thing is i have a problem with the switches because i dont know where to set them at. there is a diagram in the manual on how to set the configuration for this set up but im not sure whether it is correct.

This is from the manual.
you can get the full manual from here.

if i follow the instructions on the manual, everything goes wrong. like the components are still playing even if i take the components' RCA out etc. i dont know how to explain it (i just got into this ice hobby so my audio knowledge is very limited). it just feels like the one pair of rca (for the sub) is sending signals to my components too even if the RCA input of the components are not connected.... lol. does that make any sense? i really dont know what im doing...

but i overcame this problem with this config.

This is how i do mine.

im not sure if its the correct way to do it, which is why im here to ask some advice from you guys. i hope you can help me with this. thanks!  /68

bro, ur actually correct. if u look at the manual, there is only 1 pair of rca input, hence 'rear source select' is set to 2 channel only, this means that 1 pair of rca feeding the signal to the front and rear of the amplifier... tats why u still can hear component singing with ur rear rca disconnected. set it to 4 channel and the front/rear input are independent of each other. shouldnt the "front" be switched to "L & R sum mono"?

because you are running on mono for subs...

hey guys thanks for the fast reply.

"shouldnt the "front" be switched to "L & R sum mono"?" <-- brian, am i using mono? coz i bridged the sub.. thats why i select that as bridged.

and what do i put the "select 12 or 24 option for lowpass, note 12db is stereo/24db is mono" as? coz with the current set up, its the other way round which puzzles me.

eg. when "bridged (f r in)" is selected, the 24db becomes stereo and 12db becomes mono.

ill try change it to "L & R sum mono" now. in the mean time can help me explain how to to know whether to put as "L & R sum mono" or "bridged (f r in)". what is the difference?

If you SUM MONO, you can have this option 12db or 24 db.
The 24 db if you prefer not so booming bass.

I use this amp few year already.
