all nice inputs...thanks...

Panzer:
1) Are you building a purist system or following that path somewhat? Are you anti processing of sound?
To be honest, I aint really get what you mean by building a purist system...but its ok...I'm open actually, "anti" nothing but want to make full use of my system. Actually sometimes ICE is such a dilemma to me, a pure and neutral system sometimes sounds "dull" to me as i listen to a vast series of recording from audiophile to non-audiophile...system with a little bit of colouring (if that's the term that described it) won my heart actually...

2) Or do you like to go full active and have the most flexible tuning tools to help you get there?
Don't think I'd go for full active, used to run active but now i'm on passive, found passive quite nice and simple actually. What I'd hope is to get some EQ for the active as I found the "stupid 3-band parametric" EQ on my 8051 does give me some improvement after some little tweaking here and there...especially on the midbass area.

Summary...
A simple system (yes I'd remain on passive) with some EQ capability (perhaps an addition of external EQ)...that's why I put D1/9255 on my list as well even though they came almost bare chassis without any specific features, I can live with my amp's built-in crossover for running the highpass to the front passive and lowpass to the sub...

My point is to get some further improvement over the HU upgrade, but as u describe, there's comprise no matter which HU i've upgraded to...perhaps I should upgrade to 8061 whereby it hailed as one of the best HU eclipse made.  /24 and add a pair of external EQ... /162

Purist system, a.k.a. like home hifi, no EQ, TA or anysort of chip based processing. There are still many of these purist breed around.

The decks you mentioned like Clarion HXD1 and 9255EXL are designed for the purist in mind. While they lacked features, the are well made and luxuriosly finished with copper sheilding chassis. That is very hard to get with modern HU due to the very high copper price now! An 8"x4" ft sheet cost like almost RM$1K, and that is if you can find it! Most new high end home hi-fi designs don't even feature copper chassis anymore!

Anyway, what I said on top applies to the Eclipse 8061 as well. Well if you're using the 8051 and seem to like the sonics of the Eclipse, then what's stoping you?

why upgrade? I guess there's always a "bug" in my vein....hahaha....just want to try something different perhaps, and hope it might bring me some surprise

Guess the question "Why Change, Why Upgrade" is long enough to create a thread and it might get numerous replies in no time.... O0

Thanks panzer for ur valuable inputs and opinions, appreciate it
