i think plexi should be the most resonable one ...

as for the thickness do u think thick insulation / padding / damping would be able to compensate for the lost in the material thickness???

e.g. 1/2 inch plexi but with 2 layers of Dynamat and say with Deflex pad .. compared to a normal 1 inch thich mdf??

Nenen,

then that will negate the reason of usign plexi which is to have the see through-ness to show off the magnet

on the alloy thingie.. if not mistaken.. metals have a higher resonant frequency comapred to organic materials... thus, it may not work. Also since i have not seen a metal box b4 so dunno how it will really sound like.

On the DE plexi box... it would work as it does the same principle of mass loading the box and the deflex pad to disperse back waves... I did see one install on the net before.. the guy had a plexi box with the sub firing into a pile of sea sand... looks very nice and you ahev the imprints of the bass waves in the sand... very cool looking

alloy wouldn't be good as there's the resonance issue to take care of.

Yeah... i was also thinking that the plexi + DE thing would actually defeat the purpose of using plexi :P As 1/2" thick plexi would also be quite expensive compared to MDF(quite a few times raw material pricing)

Just use 1" mdf for the fronts and strengthen it further by bracing the enclosure.
