As long as the plywood is thick enough and the box is made sturdy enough(with some bracing at each corners), i don't see a problem. Recommended get 1" for plywood, heard people using birch ply with good results, but i'm not sure what it's called in Malaysia.

Mahogany or cengal lagi stim kan ?  /78

Sorry MinTze, just joking. But like you describe, those are the usual materials.

I have seen somebody use 2 layer of those, so called better structural integrity.
Sure is solid, but the weight increase too.

Well... i actually prefer to have some sort of double baffle for the front of the enclosure where the sub is mounted, as a single layer might not be able to support the subwoofer's weight, and also, as there's a hole cut into the particular piece, there's certain rigidity being compromised, hence the need to double baffle it, or maybe using a thicker material compared to the sides.

The type of wood doesn't create better bass actually, it's the density and rigidity that makes the box more air tight that makes it theoritically sound better.

And also, there's the resonance of the box to take care of as well, hence fiberglass boxes tend to need some dampening added to it.

You don't have to have a thicker plexi made to spec, plexi comes in very thick sheets as well, BUT, they are FREAKING costly for what they are mate, believe me, anything more than 10mm for plexi costs more than you would expect ;D

You and your carbon fetish  /77 /78 I think most would only do a FB box and the last layering wif a CF look, like those cheapo so called "CF" bonnets largely available in the market nowadays.

Oh ya... but i think i'll post this CF thingy in the home audio forum instead.
