gain tuning
« on: July 02, 2009, 09:45:49 PM »
i've a 4 channel amp, and some ice sifu suggest that my drivers do not have enough power to bring out the true potential. so if I bridge it to 2 channels (yup, it's bridgable), do I have to retune my amp, or just plug it in?

sorry lah, i am noob.. /196

fyi, this noob also searched the forum, but can't find an answer...

What amp and comps you using? Normally bridging degrades SQ. Solution is to upgrade amp with at least 20% power in access. I have heard of ppl pumping 300W RMS to 100W speakers with good results or so they claim (nvr heard so no idea).

If u have a good reputable amp, I don't really think u can hear any difference after bridging. What u get will be more headroom and perhaps dynamics as well. A a rule of thumb bridging increase the THD by 10 times and reduce the damping factor by 50%. If retuning is required, probably u may need to turn down the gain. By the way, what amp u are using?
