what amp was used in the shop? what type of enclosure? what type of song played?

all these can influence the sub's output, doesnt mean same model sub can give same type of sound....

this is becoz the amp gain level (the knob u trying to screw) shouldnt be played with a lot, if accidentally go too high your sub will koyak.  proper shops will use oscilloscope to determine the maximum gain level of the sub, and after that u leave it alone, dont touch it.

some amps that are specific for subs will have a remote gain control, this is what u need, a wired knob that u can adjust the output from the driver's seat.  this isnt really a gain control, more like eq booster for the sub sound.

Hello zenn
thanks for your feedback.
yeah i have a wired remote. i assume that the remote is the 'volume control' and i always keep it on max. is that ok?  /66

i also found that the gain controls are dependent on the volume. so i put the head unit to a 'safe' loud volume (number 20) and then play with the gain in the subwoofer.

the component speakers i can adjust with knobs under the passenger seat. that's easy. it's the subwoofer gains that sucks.
my amp is behind the subwooferbox. that means that i have to climb INSIDE the boot with a torch and screwdriver with the component speakers directly above me and the subwoofer beside me at loud volume!!!
every time a adjust the gain, i come out all blur blur /24 from the sound and being inside the boot.

where can i find an oscilloscope? and is it cheap? maybe i can wire it to my subwoofer so i can adjust it properly. (square or straight lines in the oscilloscope is to be avoided ya?)
