« on: December 23, 2007, 09:31:54 AM »
Guys,

i forgot already how much area of sound dampening material we need for a car... pls help confirm

door - need about 4 or 5 sq feet per layer per door?
boot - Need about 8 sq feet

So assuming i do door 2 layers, do two front doors...means i will need about 16 sq ft right?
including boot 1 layer, i will definitely need about 25 sq ft (16 + 8)...

anyone can help confirm?
thanks.

hmmm what car is it? no need count so accurate la, depends which sound dampening product your going after...

for example u get dynamat extreme one box, got 9 pcs, and each pc is 18" x 32" (36 sq ft), price now i think around 700-800 depends where u go...

normally what ppl do is, 4 pcs for front doors (2 sheets per door), and then 2 pcs for rear door (one each) and balance 3 more pcs use in the trunk la, one on lid and one for each side panel.

for my city, i box of DE only covered 2 front doors (2 layers), 2 rear doors (1 layer), trunk lid (1 layer) and area around rear speaker (1 layer).

plan to put 1 layer DE and superlon on the floor plan.  this round, try to diy and objective to reduce the road noise.
