wanna purchase V-Caps? prolly not suitable or too expensive ...

but as a power input bypass cap, i wonder how it will perform ...

you can use panasonic fc series caps. they can be easily purchased
at RS Malaysia or Farnell. the reason he is using so many capacitors
(in parallel) is to reduce the ESR.

have fun!

any specific reason you are combining the mica and polyester?

Thanks. I saw few design using mica n poly caps but they are usually used in small values, the reason using them instead e-cap maybe sifus can explain. Small value=higher frequencies, vice versa.

calvin,
since you already know ESR, however for the benefit of others,
ESR is defined as...
"ESR is the sum of in-phase resistance. It includes resistance of the dielectric, plate material, electrolytic solution, and terminal leads at a particular frequency. ESR acts like a resistor in series with a capacitor (thus the name Equivalent Series Resistance). This resistor can cause circuits to fail that look just fine on paper and is often the failure mode of capacitors."

hence, when 2 "resistors" are connected in parallel, the resultant
resistance value is half. of course, when more are connected in
parallel together, the lower the resultant rsistance will be. i can
only tell this much with my limited knowledge in the subject. if you
think otherwise, please share with us.

im not an expert in electronic etc its got something to do with stabilising the voltage as the irregular voltage from the battery and spark plug will be high and low and that will create the ESR...

is it true after some day, these caps will drain the battery ??

cos when the engine is off, the caps will actually take the power from the engine ...

worse still if the life span of the cap is over ... then it will have weaker strength to store energy but keep absorbing more ....

just a thought ..
