/166 now push up to 63Hz liao...sub at 40Hz
most subs can only play the lowest :
1. Sealed enclosure - between 40Hz-50Hz
2. Ported - between 30Hz-40Hz

*for premium subs(RM2500onwards) can go down additionall 5-10Hz more..dats it
- if you really wanna a sub to play down to 22Hz-24Hz, u seriously need a 18" - 24" sub to do the job. enclosure would be the size of ur entire boot and maybe more..

so if your LP for sub is 40Hz.. i really dont see the point on using a sub at all. its hardly playing!!..
even though its playing, u only have a very narrow spectrum of freq from 30Hz-40Hz only..wat a waste!!!

i guess why most people LP the sub so low cause they do not wann the sub to disturb the frontstage. its merely hiding the problem of NOT getting upfront bass!!..

further more, all drivers have impedance curve. so for sub, at 30Hz-40Hz the impedance rises from 4ohm to 8-16ohm +/-..
u seriously need a lot of juice to drive 30Hz-40Hz...and to be honest most of the time you dont really get to play those frequencies..
unless you're talking about premium monoblocks. 2ch bridged even worst!!

note: at 20Hz++ impedance generally rises up to 32ohm +/-

u can try 72Hz, 88Hz or even higher at 12db slope or higher..depends on wat u wanna achieve.

to achieve upfront bass, many variables comes into play:
1. enclosure problem
2. dampening problem
3. subsonic filter issue
4. preout voltage issue
5. output impedance to sub-amp issue
6. phase issue
7. mids not blending?
8. mids installation not proper
9. cabling issue
10. xover gap in between mids and subs
11. sub amp issue
12. direction of the sub facing?
and etc...
