New Honda City with built in CD player - how to change?
« on: September 27, 2007, 09:17:47 AM »
guys...

assuming there is no aftermarket faceplate replacement for the built in, can we do anything to replace the HU?
like manually cut out the dash panel to replace the HU?

i heard that for the honda civic, we can just replace the panel with 1 DIN panel right? what about the new City VTEC?
thanks.

kev, the 3G's 2-DIN panel cannot use?  you may want to check with honda SC.

Its claimed to be the most advance processor. Those cleansweep etc, you can use it with your stock HU to improve the signal and have some processing power. Now with the MS8 or PXA650, the even more powerful processor will tune for you. The JBL engineers say that it is not like those old built in tuner like in old alpine and pioneer HU. It is instead equipped with tools like 512 band EQ etc.

Sounds like marketing talk ? But Gary Biggs wins the world champion with the MS8 in the JBL team car, using the new BMW 3 series stock HU.

Rumoured to be retailed for US$800 for the MS8 and $300-400 for the PXA650 IIRC. The 9887 also has the same feature with PXA650, but you need to buy the tuning kid.

For more info, you can go to carsound.com and search for MS8. The marketing manager started a thread there with very detailed info.

the new honda city should have the replacement for the HU cos only the city VTEC comes with the integrated HU. The IDSI model still has the single DIN HU. Just need to get the parts from Honda. Could be expensive though. The same goes for the new Civic. I have seen one in Singapore with the replacement panel for the HU. Another way is to do what Calvin did.

the thing is...i called up Honda SC....and they told me...the old single din HU panel does not have the same 'leg' or screw slot in other words...compare to the new built in HU....so anyone here confirm can change and do it before...do let me know...

thanks!

calvin,

there has been an original moulding for 1din or 2din replacement panel already ...

its sold by Kah Motor Singapore for about sgd150.00 - maybe there is 20% discount ...

as you can see, it is much more cleaner and saves the hassle of fibering and also avoiding cramp space at the front box ...

i saw this long time ago, and was choosing either using this replacement panel or fibre glass it..... and end up fibre it...
reason is....i don't like the look of the HU at the top of the dash.... looks ugly to me.... unless it's a big LCD screen, then it look nice....
so .... end up did the fibre...which looks nice to me at the bottom of the dash, although it's very near the gear

or if any new city owners manage to find a 3rd party dash installation kit, let me know as well...
